Why Are Welcome Bonuses Even Legal?
Dear Mr Peter Dawson,
My oldest son, Larry, recently started playing at online casinos here in Canada. He has just turned 18 years old and now he does nothing else but gamble. I don’t know where he gets the money. All I know is that he exploits casino welcome bonuses, one after the other.
My question to you is whether online casino welcome bonuses are really legal. Welcome bonuses seem to be some sort of an entry to gambling. It’s blatantly obvious to me. Now I worry about my other six sons who all look up to Larry. Will they too start gambling online and thinking they may win because of all these devilish welcome bonuses?
Larry is unruly. I have told him to stop, but as he is of legal age, there is not much I can do. Still he might trick his younger brothers to start gambling and thinking those welcome bonuses are a fast track to riches.
Please, Mr Peter Dawson, help me!

Dear Brittany,
According to the federal laws of Canada, online casinos are in their full right to offer welcome bonuses to anyone over the age of 18. One may hold personal opinions about the moral aspects thereof, but they are just as much in the legal right to promote welcome bonuses as are tobacco and alcohol companies to promote their products to anyone of legal age.
Beware, however, that in the case that any of your under aged six boys were to gamble illegally, with or without welcome bonuses, you, as a legal caretaker, will be held responsible, not your son Larry.
Legally, there is nothing to do but to accept the fact that the law of Canada permits welcome bonuses of any kind as long as they don’t admit minors.
We propose you sit your under aged boys down, perhaps Larry too, for a serious talk, where you proclaim to them the fact that gambling is hazardous, and that no seemingly free welcome bonuses are really free.
